The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
