He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
