He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
