Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
