The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
