The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
