Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens they will question 40 About the guilty: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books like the prophets. 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
