The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And not an apostle came unto them but at him they were wont to mock. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
