O Ye apostles! eat the good things and work righteously; verily of that which ye work I am the Knower. 51 Surely this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so fear Me.' 52 Then they cut their affair among them in regard to the Scriptures; each band in that which is with them rejoicing. 53 So leave them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed time. 54 Deem they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We enlarge them. 55 We are hastening to reward them for good deeds? No. They do not comprehend. 56 Verily those who for fear of their Lord are in awe. 57 and who believe in their Sustainer's messages, 58 who consider nothing equal to their Lord, 59 who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord; 60 Are the ones who hasten to goodness and outpace the others. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a record which clearly shows the truth and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this; and their deeds too vary from the way (mentioned above). They will persist in these deeds 63 Until, when We grasp those of them who lead a luxurious life with punishment, behold! They make humble invocation with a loud voice. 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 My revelations were recited unto you, but ye used to turn back on your heels, 66 waxing proud against it, talking foolish talk by night.' 67 Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old? 68 Or do they not recognize their Messenger, and so deny him? 69 or you said that he is possessed by satan? In fact, he has brought you the truth, but most of you dislike it. 70 Had the truth followed their fancies, the heavens, the earth, and all who live in them would have surely been corrupted. No, We brought them their Remembrance; but from their Remembrance they turn away. 71 Or dost thou ask of them (O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best of all who make provision. 72 And indeed you call them to the Straight Path. 73 but those who disbelieve the life hereafter deviate from the right path. 74 ۞ Even if We were to grant them mercy and rescue them from hardship, they would still blindly persist in their rebellion. 75 We seized them with the punishment, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor will they humble themselves 76 until We open before them a gate of [truly] severe suffering [in the life to come]: and then, lo! they will be broken in spirit. 77
