The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
