Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 (Unto their warner it was said): To-morrow they will know who is the rash liar. 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 We sent a sandstorm against them which destroyed them all, except the family of Lot, whom We saved at the break of dawn, 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
