Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
