The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
