If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 And verily they hinder them from the way, whilst they deem that they are rightly guided. 37 Until when he comes before Us he will say (to the devil): "Would to God there was a distance of the East and West between you and me, for you were an evil companion!" 38 It will be said [to such a person], "You have done wrong. Having partners in punishment will be of no avail to you today." 39 Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error? 40 So if We take you away, We shall then indeed take revenge from them. 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 Therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path. 43 And verily it is an admonition unto thee and thy people; and presently ye will be questioned. 44 And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?" 45
