The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
