In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
