The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
