When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 "Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the people of Aykah were also wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
