The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
