He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
