Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
