The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
