He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
