The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a few from later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
