But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allah), but they think that they are guided aright! 37 At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)! 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 (Muhammad), can you make the deaf hear or guide the blind or the one who is clearly in error? 40 And if We take thee away, We shall surely take vengeance on them. 41 or make you see the end that We had promised them, for We have full power over them. 42 Hold thou fast wherefore to that which is revealed unto thee: verily thou art on the straight path. 43 And verily, this (the Quran) is indeed a Reminder for you (O Muhammad SAW) and your people (Quraish people, or your followers), and you will be questioned (about it). 44 And ask (O Muhammad SAW) those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appoint aliha (gods) to be worshipped besides the Most Beneficent (Allah)?" 45
