He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
