Have you seen him who turns his back, 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no soul laden bears the load of another, 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 and that his work is surely seen 40 then he shall be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense, 41 and that with thy Sustainer is the beginning and the end [of all that exists]; 42 And that it is He Who causeth to laugh and causeth to weep. 43 And that He it is Who causes death and gives life- 44 And that it is He Who has created the two pairs, male and female? 45 From a sperm-drop when it is emitted 46 And that on Him is the bringing forth a second time; 47 and that it is He who gives riches and causes to hoard, 48 And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 And that it is He Who earlier destroyed the tribe of Aad? 50 and Thamood, and He did not spare them, 51 And before them, the people of Nooh? Indeed they were more unjust and more rebellious than these! 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 and caused them to be covered with that which He covered them with. 54 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The Hour that was to come draws ever nearer. 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 while you are thoughtless? 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
