He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
