The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
