He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
