A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
