The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children present [with him] 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
