He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
