Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born, the day that he dies, and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
