In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
