The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
