The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
