The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
