The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount; 1 and by the Book in lines 2 on fine parchment; 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
