The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
