The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 But then We never send the angels down save with the purpose (of enforcing their doom), after which they will not be given more respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
