The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
