Seest thou one who turns back, 33 Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 “That no bearer of a burden shall bear the burden of another, 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 And that his effort will be seen. 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 And that the end is only towards your Lord? 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 and He it is Who created the two kinds, the male and the female, 45 From a drop of liquid, when it is added? 46 And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; 47 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius, 49 And that it is He Who earlier destroyed the tribe of Aad? 50 And that Thamud! He left not. 51 And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing. 52 He plunged the villages 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The Approaching Day has approached. 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Do you then wonder at this announcement? 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 Wasting your time in vanities? 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
