He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
