Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
