The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
