The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
