By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Indeed, everyone of them desires to have sheets of revelations unfolded before them -- 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
