It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate. 11 He (Allah) asked: 'What prevented you to prostrate, when I commanded you' 'I am better than he' he replied. 'You created me of fire and You created him of clay' 12 Said Allah, “Therefore go down from here – it does not befit you to stay here and be proud – exit, you are of the degraded.” 13 Satan replied: 'Give me respite till the Day they shall be raised.' 14 Allah said: verily thou art of the respited. 15 He said: because Thou hast seduced me, I will beset for them Thy straight path. 16 Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." 17 Said He, 'Go thou forth from it, despised and banished. Those of them that follow thee -- I shall assuredly fill Gehenna with all of you.' 18 'O Adam, inherit, thou and thy wife, the Garden, and eat of where you will, but come not nigh this tree, lest you be of the evildoers.' 19 Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals. 20 Satan swore before them that he was giving them good advice. 21 Then he caused them to fall by deceit; so when they tasted of the tree, their evil inclinations became manifest to them, and they both began to cover themselves with the leaves of the garden; and their Lord called out to them: Did I not forbid you both from that tree and say to you that the Shaitan is your open enemy? 22 They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." 23 Allah said: 'Go down; you are enemies one of the other. For you there is dwelling and provision on the earth for a while.' 24 He told them that, on earth, they would live, die, and be resurrected. 25
