The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us.
